In The Oregon Trail game, you head out west from Independence, Missouri to the Willamette River and valley in Oregon. Play The Oregon Trail online!

The Oregon Trail

You first must stock up on provisions, and then, while traveling, make decisions such as when to rest, how much food to eat, etc.

The Oregon Trail incorporates simulation elements and planning ahead, along with discovery and adventure, as well as mini-game-like activities (hunting and floating down the Dalles River).

The Oregon Trail game description

First released to the masses in 1974 by MECC, The Oregon Trail stands out as the most important educational game of all time, holding a worthy spot in the Video Game Hall of Fame.

You will need to ration food, hunt, trade, and ford rivers while prioritizing your party’s survival.  The character you pick will determine the difficulty level of the game since the banker can afford food and supplies for most of the trip, while the carpenter has a smaller budget, and the farmer must rely mostly on skills to maneuver the trial.

The game ends when your party is eliminated or when you reach Oregon.

You have died of dysentery.

Your character choice also influences the points you earn when the game ends. Since the game is easy for the banker, no point multipliers are applied. Carpenters get a 2x point multiplier, while farmers get a 3x point multiplier.

The random challenges in the game can change the entire course of the game for a player. Therefore, new players must try beating the game as a banker before trying it at other difficulty levels.

  • Every decision matters
  • A game full of nostalgia
  • It's a challenge
  • The graphics are very simple
  • The game is repetitive over time

The Oregon Trail is a fun game, but it doesn't feel like you're really traveling the trail.

This game has a very easy learning curve. It doesn't take very long to figure out how to get from your starting point to the Willamette Valley successfully.

Trading is easy in this game, and many times the other characters will be willing to trade for food, which is easily had in this game.

BUT the fact that it is not very realistic. It's hard to get people to die when they get sick, unless you're going at a breakneck speed and never stop to rest, which is unnecessary in this game.

We definitely recommend this game to everyone. It is amazing!
