Your privacy.

• You can read everything, play the game, take the quiz and post a score without an account.
• A leaderboard entry shows the name you type, so use a first name or a nickname.
• Accounts are optional, for people 13 or older, and exist to keep your saved games.
• We never sell your information, and we never show the name or email from your Google account on the site.
• Ads appear only on the play page, in a column beside the game. No other page shows ads.

Leaderboard scores. The name you type, your score, how long you played and the date. This is public. Names with email addresses, phone numbers or rude words are refused. To stop abuse, each time a score is sent we also note the IP address, the browser and the random number described under cookies, and keep them for 30 days. Only the site's administrators see them, and only to block someone who keeps posting rude names.

Google accounts. If you sign in with Google, we keep your email address, the name and profile picture Google shares, a public nickname, your saved games, your reviews and your quiz results. Only the site's administrators can see your email, name and picture. Everyone else sees the nickname.

Local profiles. A local profile and its saved games stay in your browser, locked with your password. We never receive them.

Play counts. When a game starts we note which game, when, and later how long it stayed on screen. If you are signed in with Google, this is linked to your account. When a music track plays we count which track and how long it played, with nothing about who was listening.

Messages and events. Emails you send us, and the contact details in an event you submit for the calendar. Contact details are never shown on the site.

Problem reports. When you use “Found a bug?”, we keep what you wrote, the page you were on, your browser and window size, and your email if you chose to give one. Only the site's administrators see reports, and we delete yours whenever you ask.

Server logs. Like almost every website, our server keeps short technical logs, such as IP addresses, to keep the site running and secure.

Some things are stored only in your own browser: saved games for guests and local profiles, your music player settings, your recent quiz questions and best scores, scores waiting to be posted while you are offline, and copies of pages so the site works offline.

We also use a few small cookies: one that keeps you signed in, one that remembers you confirmed you are 13 or older (30 days), one that remembers how you rated a game, and a random number that helps us stop spam on the leaderboard and in problem reports, and keeps one leaderboard row per player. None of them are used for advertising.

You can remove all of this at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

• Google handles sign-in when you choose a Google account. We also use Google Analytics to count visits, with its advertising features switched off. It sets its own cookies.
• Primis and Freestar provide the ads on the play page. To show and measure ads, they and the advertisers they work with may use cookies or similar technology on that page. Where the law gives you a choice about this, the game's sidebar shows a privacy settings button (a lock) that opens those choices.
• Esri supplies the map background on the trail map, so your browser loads map images from Esri's servers on that page.

This site is for everyone, and many readers are children. Children can use all of it without an account and without giving us anything but a nickname for the leaderboard. Accounts are for people 13 or older.

If you are a parent and think your child under 13 created an account or gave us personal information, write to us and we will delete it. You can also ask us to remove any leaderboard entry or review.

Signed in with Google? Your dashboard has a button that deletes your account together with your scores, reviews, saved games, quiz results and nickname, straight away. Anything else we remove when you ask. We keep information only until you delete it or ask us to.
