Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We check every public page automatically for the basics listed below, but the site has not had a formal audit by an accessibility expert, so we call AA our goal rather than a promise.
What works today
- Everything can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
- A “Skip to content” link is the first thing on every page.
- Pages use proper headings, landmarks and lists, so screen readers can move around them.
- Text and controls are checked for AA color contrast.
- Pages can be zoomed in with your browser without breaking the layout.
- If you ask your device to reduce motion, decorative animation stops.
- The layout works on screens from 320 pixels wide.
- The trail map has a list of every stop next to it, and every stop is also written up under Trail places.
What doesn't work yet
- The game itself is a DOS program from 1992, played with a mouse and keyboard, and it was made long before today's accessibility standards. Its story is also told in plain text in the history of the game and throughout the encyclopedia.
- The site has a dark theme only. Browser reader modes can show pages in a light theme.
- Some image descriptions are short. Tell us if one leaves out something important.
Tell us about a problem
If something is hard or impossible to use, please with the page address and what went wrong. A person reads every message.
